The ride supports the Big Brothers Big Siblings branch of Nevada County and North Lake Tahoe by raising money through mountain biking. The event is focused around a tough ride through the hills, valley and forests of Nevada County, permitting bicyclists to ride on some of the very best routes in the area while raising loan for a good cause. Founded in 1904, the Big Brothers Big Sis of America’s mission is to offer kids facing adversity with strong and long-lasting, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the much better, according to its site http://www.bbbs.org. The Nevada City Charity Bike Trip was produced by Rick Kalb 18 years earlier. He wished to return to his community in a major way. “The method I saw everybody returning to the neighborhood was through golf competitions,” stated Kalb with a laugh. “I don’t play golf, however at the time I was already into cycling, so the idea of a bike-a-thon came up. I wished to do something to assist kids– to do an actually hard mtb flight that people would want to show up from the Bay Area to ride and support a regional organization.” Kalb wanted to select an organization to support that was special and for an excellent cause, and Big Brothers Big Sisters was at the top of his list. “Among the factors I chose that company is since everyone likes it,” stated Kalb. “I ‘d hate to do a charity event for something that’s questionable, which some people don’t want to support.” And so the Nevada City Charity Bike Ride was born. In previous years, the trip just offered one route: an exceptionally tough 50 mile loop that circled around north of Nevada City and consisted of the entirety of the South Yuba Path, one of the most difficult and dangerous routes in California. “In the past, we’ve had a lot of individuals do the flight and do not it once again because it’s so hard,” said Kalb. “This year, however, we’re making it a gravel grinder (with two distance choices: a 25 mile and a 50 mile). We’re likewise decreasing the charge to ride, making it $125 rather of $250.” The trip will occur on May 13, starting from Nevada City’s Pioneer Park and branching up into the foothills. Cyclists can take the loop at their own rate, pressing themselves on the 50 mile course or the 25 mile one. Quick and running tracks welcome the riders at every turn, with gravel roadways are plentiful. Ultimately, cyclists circle back down to Leader Park, where food and a party wait for.
