Biking enthusiasts will soon be pedaling away in the town & #x 2019; s first & #x 201c; boutique & #x 201d; indoor cycling studio. The Arlington Redevelopment Board on Dec. 19 approved an unique license to Jacqueline Maurer for Upbeat Biking, LLC at 6 Schouler Court, the very first of potentially 3 & #xa 0; renters to reoccupy the uninhabited 10,000 plus square foot building. The studio will take up 3,000 square feet of the first flooring and deal classes in the early morning from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m. and at night from 4 or 5 to 9 p.m. As a shop cycling studio, an idea that Maurer said is & #xa 0; blowing up in today & #x 2019; s biking arena, Upbeat Cycling will offer locals a more customized biking experience that surpasses the “spinning” classes readily available at lots of gyms. “Spinning is the name of a particular sort of indoor cycling. It’s indoor group classes on stationary bicycles taught by trainers to music,” Maurer informed the ARB, stating her company will use more than just spin classes. & #x 201c; It & #x 2019; s a little bit more high end with a focus on customer care. We are developing a spa-like environment … My motto is to make physical fitness fun. & #x 201d; Maurer & #x 2019; s attorney John Maher also said business would have a favorable effect on the area. & #x 201c; She intends to bring a vibrant new business to a very much underutilized & #x 2013; in fact relatively unsightly & #x 2013; however prominent part of a significant downtown, & #x 201d; he stated. Although the purpose of the unique permit is to alter making use of a part of 6 Schouler Court to an indoor cycling studio, the main question for the ARB came down to parking and the transport management strategy. Inning accordance with Jennifer Raitt, the town & #x 2019; s Preparation Director, the minimum parking required for the site under the town & #x 2019; s zoning bylaw is 10 areas. Maurer, however, presented a transport management plan that persuaded ARB members the website would be able to deal with the demand from traffic. According to Raitt, Maurer has made arrangements with Mystic Wine Shoppe at 901 Massachusetts Ave. to provide four spaces for people going to the studio, and with RCN, situated at 956 Massachusetts Ave., to supply another 3 spots. She also plans to provide cash rewards and benefits to staff members and people using the studio that take alternative means of transport including walking, cycling and making the most of close-by bus lines. & #x 201c; I think you deserve to be commended for the transport management strategy, & #x 201d; stated ARB Chairman Andrew Bunnell. & #x 201c; I like the development of it and I like the creativity behind it. & #x 201d; & #x 201c; The entire shared parking, TMP and transport is well thought out, & #x 201d; included ARB member Andrew West. & #x 201c; I indicate you’re really preaching to the choir here on things like making plans with a few of the other companies [for parking] That is precisely where we & #x 2019; re going. A lot of the things we & #x 2019; re discussing with the town and the master plan are creative methods to truly, truly minimize parking with genuine actionable products. & #x 201d; © & copy; Copyright 2006-2016 GateHouse Media, LLC.
